BBC Presenter Amber Butchart: The Fashion Chronicles - Style Secrets of History's Best Dressed

Funky fashion historian, author and broadcaster, Amber Butchart, specialises in the historical intersections between dress, politics and culture. She is regularly asked to speak at cultural hotspots from the Tate to the V&A, and she is widely known as the presenter of A Stitch in Time (BBC Four), Civilisations Stories: The First Refugees (BBC One and BBC Four) and Radio 4’s From Rags to Riches.

As the UK’s leading fashion historian Amber is also the history consultant and a regular contributor to BBC One’s Great British Sewing Bee, and features regularly on BBC Radio’s Woman's Hour.

 

Here, she talks through her latest book "The Fashion Chronicles: Style Stories of History’s Best Dressed”, which crosses continents and over 5000 years to show the importance of communication through clothing, featuring 100 people from Joan of Arc to Marie Antoinette, Karl Marx and Emperor Augustus.
