Justin Newland: The Limits of Empire

Thursday 9th May, 7:30pm
Cookham Library, High Road

Novelist Justin Newland explores England’s coming of age during the Elizabethan era when the nation shed its image as a small, misty isle on the edge of continental Europe. Sparked by Dr John Dee’s vision, in his book The Limits of Empire, England  grew to become the centre of a new world of trade and communication.

Justin will explain how this period of history inspired his latest novel The Mark of the Salamander, which explores the epic story and secret history of Sir Francis Drake’s circumnavigation.

Author, speaker and broadcaster, Justin Newland, was undeterred by the award of a Doctorate in Mathematics from Imperial College, London, when he embarked on a second career as a successful author of historical adventure books. He lives with his partner in plain sight of the Mendip Hills in Somerset.

Justin will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and sign copies of his books after his talk.
