Fighting for the Commons - Keith Parry
Monday 11th May, 7.30pm
First Floor Barn, The Gantry
£10
Cookham Commons form a historic green arc from Odney Island to Maidenhead Thicket, shaping village life until 1800. As England’s population grew, landowners sought to enclose open fields, replacing traditional farming patterns.
For over 100 years, Cookham villagers resisted repeated enclosure attempts. Today, the Commons remain a rare survival of this earlier landscape.
Our speaker, Keith Parry, with an Oxford M.Sc. in Local History and a long research career, lectures, publishes on diverse historical topics, and serves as Treasurer and Trustee of major heritage bodies.
