Step into the haunting world of Saxon Cookham Abbey in a spellbinding live performance by Friends of Cookham Abbey trustee David Gilbert, alongside musicians LucyAnne Taylor and Sarah Lambert Gates.
Drawing on excerpts from David’s forthcoming book The Cookham Chronicles: Silver Serpent, this immersive event weaves storytelling with live folk music and Anglo-Saxon woodwind, bringing an ancient landscape vividly to life.
Rooted in the real and imagined history of Cookham Abbey, the tale unfolds in a magical, ghost-filled world that is by turns funny, mysterious and gently thrilling.
Meet Silver Serpent, with her enchanted flute; Flaming Fox, a refugee from Wessex; and a memorable trio of ghosts — Prince Taeppa, the Sleeping Sister, and Wulfstan, a toothless, vegetarian wolfhound.
Rich in atmosphere and imagination, this is a captivating experience for audiences of all ages — a story to delight the whole family. Approx 30 mins.
